Senator Cornyn Stands Firm On Troop Benefits
Senator Cornyn voted for the Democratic Congress’s GI Bill even after Rick Noriega vowed to support Senator James Webb’s GI Bill Proposal. Senator Cornyn is supporting our troops and making sure they are able to use their GI Bill while Rick Noriega is content criticizing Senator Cornyn’s vote. The difference between the bills is that the one that Senator Cornyn voted for was to add transferability to education benefits.
This bill was vital to the military’s needs. It allows dependents of military personnel to use the benefits if something happens to the military member and he/she is unable to use the education benefits. President Bush and John McCain recognized the importance of this bill. If Representative Noriega will fold this easily he can’t possibly be a voice in support of our national defense or our troops. Sadly enough, Noriega spent Memorial Day criticizing Senator Cornyn’s support of this bill instead of spending the day thinking of families who have lost loved ones in our wars abroad. I guess Lt Col Noriega conveniently forgot he was once one of those soldiers on the battlefield for political expediency.
Senator Cornyn is smart enough to know when the Armed Forces recruits a man into it’s ranks, more often than not, it recruits a family. Even my family members sacrificed a lot for my career in the military. When I was away on deployment, my wife was left doing chores I normally did when I was here. My daughter had to step up and do more things than she was normally asked to do because I was gone. It’s only right if the military member isn’t able to use his GI bill that his spouse or kids are allowed to.
Senator Cornyn Crossed the isle to work with his democratic counterparts to support the Armed Forces when Lt Col Rick Noriega attempted to condemn him for it. That’s the sad state of affairs when retired veterans get into politics and forget their roots that are embedded with the military, all in the name of political expediency.
